As this week’s letter is G, I am going to talk about all things green. This may sound like a predictable choice for a blog called ‘green stilettos’, but did you know that the International Pantone Institute named green — or, more precisely, emerald green — as the colour of the year 2013?
The Institute describes green as “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”
This means that the green is officially in!
For some glamorous emerald-coloured inspirations, check out this Pinterest board. I absolutely love this – by now – iconic image of Coeur de Voh in New Caledonia by the French filmmaker, photographer and environment advocate Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
Speaking about glamour, it is, after all, the awards season in Hollywood, with actors and celebrities vying for the coveted Golden Globes and Academy Awards, informally known as The Oscars.
One leading lady who will certainly be above competition when it comes to putting glam into green is Livia Firth, the Green Carpet Challenge ambassador par excellence.
This is how TheVine describes this exciting initiative: “Livia Firth has a fastidious commitment to sustainable fashion, and has been walking the red carpet for the past three years on the arm of husband, Colin Firth, to bring the environmental and social issues surrounding clothing to the fore. She started the Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) three years ago and her immediate beauty and warmth elicits flashes from the best photographers and inches of editorial on her GCC initiative. Vogue UK commission her to blog about her experience in sustainable fashion, attending red carpet events such as the Oscars, Met Ball, meeting the Obamas and last week the Golden Globes. Livia chooses outfits for each event that are created to stringent sustainability guidelines and her blog documents the process. She works with some of the most exciting designers in the industry, provoking innovative approaches to ethical fashion.”
Here she is pictured with her husband, incidentally in what looks like an emerald-green frock.
Last year, the Green Carpet Challenge featured world’s leading fashion designers, including Chanel, Alberta Ferretti, Tom Ford, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Valentino, Roger Vivier and Ermenegildo Zegna.
And after last weekend’s Golden Globes, where Bradley Cooper dazzled in an eco-tux designed by Tom Ford, I am very much looking forward to next month’s Oscars.
Let’s hope GCC in 2013 will be even bigger and better! Stay tuned…
