Pre-Holidays Pampering Tips

As the weather gets colder and the holiday season draws nearer, it is time to get pampered with some wholesome beauty treatments and products.

One of my little indulgences is to treat myself to one of Switzerland’s amazing outdoor spas heated by underground hot water springs. The experience of getting a hydromassage in a steaming infinity pool under the stars surrounded by snow-capped mountains is genuinely hard to beat.  By the way, did you know that the word ‘spa’ could be a Latin acronym, which stands for ‘salus per aquam’ or ‘health through water’?

For a truly luxurious spa experience, you can try The Cambrian Adelboden Hotel & Spa in the central part of Switzerland, which respects the environment, offers fair trade and eco-friendly skincare products and local cuisine. I wish, however, that the hotel took cue from another luxury resort, Hotel Firefly in Zermatt, which switched from oil-fired to geothermal heating a few years ago.

And for a quick après-ski soak you can’t go wrong with Lavey-les-Bains day spa in Valais, which boasts the country’s hottest natural thermal springs. You will certainly come out feeling rejuvenated and reinvigorated.

When it comes to skincare, there is a great and growing range of organic products out there. As we’re heading into winter, my skin often looks and feels dull and dehydrated, and is in desperate need of an instant ‘pick-me-up’. And since I am also ‘blessed’ with ultra-sensitive skin, I try to use organic skincare products as much as possible.

My personal favourite is the ECOCERT certified Latvian brand Madara Cosmetics sold online and in select stores across Europe. I love the fresh scent of the northern plants such as nettle and rosehip, and pine and birch tree forests that remind me of my childhood. And their Sun Flower Golden Beige Tinting Fluid does wonders for my complexion.

A little while ago, I was approached by the award-winning sustainable luxury platform Positive Luxury to help them pick their Top Ten Positive Christmas Stocking Fillers.

I chose the Gentle Exfoliant in Pink by AEOS, which is jam-packed with eight organic oils — from Argan to Lemon Myrtle — and other lovely ingredients such as Rosewater and soothing Calendula Extract. And, of course, the Gentle Exfoliant is pink (entirely naturally, by the way) – the colour of breast cancer awareness campaign! I also appreciate the company’s philosophy of actively working with the Earth’s ecosystem, supporting the planet towards a healthy and harmonious future. I look forward to discovering the AEOS’s 3 Phase system of renewing, rebalancing and replenishing one’s skin.

I hope that these tips will help you feel pampered and positive throughout the holiday season and beyond.
